Martin Smith, SCAD’s executive director of design and new construction, has managed the university’s acclaimed construction, rehabilitation and renovation projects since 2008. He has overseen such projects as the Equestrian Center Shaw Family Riding Pavilion, SCAD Atlanta’s Digital Media Center, the Student Center and the SCAD Museum of Art, as well as numerous residence halls and dining areas. His award-winning contributions helped create the look and feel of SCAD today. His successful project management experience made him a natural choice for coordinating SCADpad design and construction activities, which included supervising architectural design, interior design and construction. He also served as client, critic and mentor for the Collaborative Learning Center classes assigned to work on SCADpad. He holds a B.F.A in industrial design from the University of Kansas and a M.A. in interior design from SCAD.
